Viral Video Exposes Rajasthan DSP Slurs: Tribal Community's Fight for Justice in Udaipur- Full Story and Demands

Tribal leaders, including BAP's Kantilal Rot, claim the DSP's actions reveal deep-seated bias against Adivasis, who form over 40% of Udaipur's population.

Udaipur- In a escalating clash between Rajasthan's tribal community and law enforcement, the Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) led a fierce protest on October 27 against Girwa DSP Suryaveer Singh, demanding his outright dismissal. Sparked by a tragic road accident in Saira on October 23 that claimed the life of 28-year-old tribal youth Ambalal Gameti, the incident has snowballed into a broader outcry over alleged police brutality and casteist abuse.

A viral video showing the DSP hurling slurs at peaceful protesters has ignited social media fury, amplifying calls for justice from Rajasthan's indigenous Bhil and other tribal groups.

The tragedy unfolded on October 23 along the Barwada Highway near Kathar Gram Panchayat in Udaipur's Saira area. Ambalal Gameti, a daily wage worker from the Gameti tribal community, was riding his motorcycle to work when a speeding car struck him from behind, killing him on the spot. The driver fled but was later apprehended by police.

Grief quickly turned to grief-fueled action: Ambalal's family and villagers blocked the highway, demanding ₹1 crore in compensation for the family, road safety improvements, and accountability for the accident amid poor infrastructure. What began as a peaceful sit-in escalated when frustrated protesters damaged some vehicles, prompting police intervention. DSP Suryaveer Singh, leading the response, allegedly used tear gas, lathi charges, and aerial firing to disperse the crowd, injuring 12 officers and arresting 29 locals, including BAP's Kumbhalgarh candidate Dr. Ram Meena. Authorities also seized 52 vehicles in the crackdown.

At the heart of the tribal community's fury is a now-viral video capturing DSP Singh's alleged misconduct during the standoff. In the footage, widely shared on X (formerly Twitter), the officer is seen threatening protesters with abuses and casteist slurs targeting the Adivasi (tribal) identity, phrases like "Get up or face the lathis" laced with derogatory references to their community. BAP spokesperson Jitendra Meena condemned it as "not law enforcement, but outright thuggery," arguing that Singh's provocation turned a legitimate demand for justice into violence.

Tribal leaders, including BAP's founding member Kantilal Rot, claim the DSP's actions reveal deep-seated bias against Adivasis, who form over 40% of Udaipur's population. "A simple accident protest was politicized by insensitive policing," Rot said, adding that Singh's slurs and physical assaults humiliated the community, eroding trust in Rajasthan Police. Social media echoes this: Posts from tribal activists decry it as "gunda-gardi" (goondaism), with one viral clip racking up thousands of views and tags to CM Bhajan Lal Sharma and state police handles. For many tribals, this isn't isolated, it's part of a pattern of marginalization over land rights, resources, and dignity, fueling BAP's narrative of systemic oppression.

The protestors demanded immediate dismissal of the DSP over alleged casteist abuse and incitement.

Undeterred by relentless monsoon rains on October 27, hundreds of BAP workers, men, women, and youth from tribal hamlets stormed Udaipur's Collectorate for a two-hour sit-in. Umbrellas and raincoats barely shielding them, protesters chanted "Udaipur Police, Wake Up!" and "DSP Out Now!" while submitting a memorandum to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). Women led the charge, hurling symbolic sand at police lines in a nod to traditional Adivasi resistance. Heavy security was deployed, but the demonstration remained non-violent, lasting amid downpours that tested their resolve.

BAP district president Amit Kharadi warned, "If DSP Singh isn't removed, this won't stop at Udaipur, we'll march to Jaipur and ignite statewide protests." The event, live-streamed on X, drew solidarity from Adivasi influencers, turning #Udaipur_DSP_बर्खास्त_करो into a trending hashtag.

The protesters outlined clear asks in their memorandum:

Immediate Dismissal of DSP Suryaveer Singh: For alleged casteist abuse and incitement.

Independent Probe: A senior officer-led inquiry into the Saira police action, including video evidence review.

Release of Detainees: Drop "fake" charges against the 29 arrested, seen as innocent youth caught in the fray.

Victim's Compensation: ₹1 crore for Ambalal's family, plus highway repairs to prevent future tragedies.
