Chhattisgarh: Simmering tensions between two Tribal groups come to a boil at Narayanpur District

Raipur— In Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district, two groups of tribals have been in a state of tension for the past few days. It started last Monday when a mob attacked a church here and vandalized it. The Superintendent of Police (SP) who arrived at the scene for security was also attacked by the mob, in which he was injured. There is an uneasy calm in the area after the incident. Police have increased security at places of worship of minorities. At the same time, strict security arrangements have been made in minority-dominated settlements.

The crowd went out of control

The crowd in the rally went unruly and vandalized the church located in Bengalpara. There was a heavy police force here and Superintendent of Police Sadanand Kumar was also attacked. The Superintendent of Police was injured in the attack. Superintendent of Police said that "the rally takers were told to demonstrate peacefully, but then some of them reached the church unorganised and vandalized it. I also reached there along with the police force and dissuaded the people from doing it and they also were convinced but meanwhile Someone Attacked Me frombehind.”

Both the groups were separated

The Superintendent of Police got injured in the head, the situation is currently under control and both groups have been separated. A large number of policemen have been deployed after the protests turned violent. Police officials of Narayanpur district said that on Sunday, there was a clash between two communities in Edka village of the district against which the tribals protested on Monday

The version of the Superintendent of Police

Narayanpur District Superintendent of Police,Sadanand Kumar, who was receiving treatment at the hospitaltold  that when the protestors reached Vishwa Deepti Christian School this afternoon, they started trying to move towards a church located in the school premises. Kumar said, "When I came to know about it, I reached there along with other officials and tried to pacify the protestersand they were also convinced and were about to return, but suddenly someone hit me on the head from behindand I got injured."

Police officials said that after the attack, the injured Superintendent of Police was taken to a local hospital and administered first aid. In the video from the scene of incident, the protesters can be seen vandalizing the church located in the school premises.
