New Delhi- Sonipat-based fitness influencer and wrestler Ankit Baiyanpuria, popularly known for his viral “Ram Ram Bhai Saryane” greeting and the 75 Hard Challenge, has sparked a major debate on caste discrimination in Haryana’s traditional wrestling culture. Ankit regularly posts workout videos, diet tips, and motivational content, engaging with his audience through live sessions and Q&A videos.
In a recently released video that has gone viral on social media, Baiyanpuria shared his personal experiences of facing caste-based bias during his early days training in akharas.
Baiyanpuria, who belongs to the Prajapati (OBC) community, recounted how his journey in wrestling was often overshadowed by caste identity. “Itna ganda casteism Haryana mein game mein... main akhade mein jaya karta na... sabse pehle meri caste poochhi gayi... aur bhai bahut baar aisa...” he stated in the video, explaining that wherever he went to practice wrestling, the first question people asked was about his caste.
Ankit Baiyanpuria became widely popular across India through his motivational fitness videos and disciplined lifestyle content on social media. He started his online journey by creating Haryanvi prank and comedy videos under the channel name ‘Haryanvi Khagad.’ However, he later transitioned to fitness content, adopting the name ‘Ankit Baiyanpuria.’ His dedication to promoting desi workout techniques, including sapate (Indian burpees), rope climbing, and mud wrestling, helped him gain a massive following.
According to Baiyanpuria, this inquiry was not merely casual curiosity but directly influenced how he was treated. He alleged that opportunities, respect, and even safety during training were determined by his caste background. On multiple occasions, he claimed, opponents or trainers deliberately injured him during practice due to caste prejudice. Despite these challenges, Baiyanpuria rose to prominence through his dedication to fitness and desi workouts, inspiring lakhs of young followers.
His remarks have drawn widespread attention, especially as he is a recognized figure who met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October 2023 during the Swachh Bharat campaign. The two participated together in a cleanliness drive blending fitness and public service, with PM Modi publicly praising Baiyanpuria’s efforts.
The video has triggered intense discussions online. Supporters commend Baiyanpuria for courageously highlighting persistent social barriers in grassroots sports, while others debate the prevalence of casteism in rural Haryana’s wrestling traditions. Many point out the irony that even notable success and national recognition have not fully shielded him from such discrimination.
Jitu Rajoriya, a BSP supporter wrote on x, " Think we live in a place where your race is asked more than your skills and imagine that race should end. Think it is very unfortunate that such happens with the person from whom the PM himself is influenced and learns about indigenous fitness and from whom he advises the youth of the country to take inspiration."
Another user commented, " No matter how much the Dalit-backwards become Hindus, they will remain a minority according to the casteists."
Baiyanpuria’s account highlights broader issues in traditional akharas, where caste often plays a significant role in social dynamics, mentorship, and competition. His story has renewed calls for greater inclusivity and reform in India’s rural sports ecosystem, emphasizing that talent and hard work should transcend caste lines.
