Faizabad- MP Awadhesh Prasad broke down in tears while addressing the media on Sunday over the brutal rape and murder of a 22-year-old Dalit woman in Ayodhya. Overcome with emotion, the Samajwadi Party leader declared that he would resign from the Lok Sabha if justice was not delivered.

The victim’s body was found naked in a canal near her village, with her family alleging she had been violated before being killed, and her eyes gouged out. A video of Prasad weeping, supported by his colleagues, went viral on social media as he lamented the inability to protect women from such horrific crimes.

The incident has triggered widespread outrage, with villagers and the victim’s family demanding strict action against the perpetrators. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath responded by assuring that those responsible would face the severest punishment.

However, he also took a swipe at Prasad, dismissing his emotional reaction as "drama" and alleging that an investigation might reveal the involvement of Samajwadi Party leaders in the crime. Adityanath accused the SP of sheltering criminals, recalling similar cases of violence against women during its tenure.

The young woman had been reported missing on Thursday, and her body was discovered a day later by her brother-in-law. According to her family, her limbs were tied, and she had multiple deep wounds and fractures. The police have taken one suspect into custody and launched an investigation.
