New Delhi- A political controversy has erupted in New Delhi after Congress leader Udit Raj requested police protection following alleged threats from supporters of BSP leader Mayawati. The situation developed after Raj made controversial comments suggesting Mayawati should be "throttled" during an event in Lucknow on February 17.

In his letter to the Delhi Police Commissioner, Raj reported receiving threatening calls and noticing suspicious individuals near his residence. He specifically highlighted a YouTube video on the channel 'Bahujan Dastak' where someone allegedly offered a Rs 1 lakh reward for attacking him. Raj, who serves as the National Chairman of the All India Unorganised Workers and Employees Congress and chairs the Dalit, OBC, Minority and Adivasi Parisangh, also claimed to have received threats from someone claiming to act on behalf of Mayawati and BSP leader Akash Anand.

The incident has drawn sharp criticism from various political figures. Mayawati responded by criticizing Congress's historical treatment of Dalits, suggesting the party has consistently opposed B.R. Ambedkar's efforts to uplift oppressed communities. BJP National Spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain condemned Raj's original remarks as an insult to Dalits and particularly to Mayawati's leadership. Similarly, JD-U leader Rajeev Ranjan Prasad criticized the Congress party's rhetoric, describing it as increasingly problematic and inappropriate for a democratic nation.

Raj has requested immediate police intervention, including the filing of an FIR and protection for himself and his family members, citing concerns about his personal safety.
