Mallapuram- In a rally held in Mallapuram in Kerala on Monday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan made a significant statement, asserting that the slogans "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" and "Jai Hind" were originally raised by Muslims.

Addressing the crowd in this Muslim-majority district of north Kerala, the veteran CPI(M) leader emphasized the substantial contributions of Muslim rulers, cultural figures, and officials to India's history and its struggle for independence.

Vijayan cited historical examples to support his assertion, noting that a Muslim named Azimullah Khan was the one who coined the slogan "Bharat Mata Ki Jai.

"Some Sangh Parivar leaders who came here have asked those who sat in front of them to chant the slogan 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'. Who coined the slogan? I don't know whether the Sangh Parivar knows that his name is Azimullah Khan," the Chief Minister said.

He remarked that he didn't know whether they would stop using the slogan as it was a Muslim who came up with it.

The Chief Minister's speech was part of the fourth consecutive rally organized by the CPI(M) in Kerala against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA). During his address, Vijayan also highlighted the role of an esteemed diplomat named Abid Hasan in first popularizing the slogan "Jai Hind."

Further elaborating on historical contributions, Vijayan mentioned the significant translation work undertaken by Dara Shikoh, the son of Mughal Emperor Shahjahan.

Shikoh's translations of over 50 Upanishads from Sanskrit into Persian played a crucial role in disseminating Indian texts worldwide.

Vijayan also called on Sangh Parivar leaders and activists advocating for the extradition of Muslims from India to Pakistan to familiarize themselves with this historical context. He emphasized that Muslims, like other communities, played a pivotal role in India's freedom movement.

The CM also took to social media to share his emotions after the rally. He posted , " Joined the massive rally against the implementation of #CAA in Malappuram today. People turned out for the protest in large numbers, reflecting Kerala's deep-rooted secular heritage. Let’s unitedly move forward to defeat the communal forces and build a more democratic India." Similar rallies were held earlier in Kasargod and Kannur districts too.
