Accurate Caste Data Essential for Social Justice: Delegation Submits Representation on Census 2027 Mechanism

Urge Census Commissioner to Pause Enumeration Process

The Mooknayak English

New Delhi- On behalf of the Coordination Committee, BC Intellectuals Forum (BCIF) President Shri Chireenjuvulu, All India Forum for Elected Public Representatives (ALFEPR) Shri V. Srinivas Goud, and All India OBC Students Association (AIOBCSA) National President Dr. G. Kiran Kumar submitted a representation to the Office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner of India, New Delhi, regarding the methodology proposed for caste enumeration in Census 2027.

The delegation also submitted the resolution unanimously adopted by the speakers at yesterday’s national meeting, bearing their signatures, highlighting serious concerns regarding the absence of a clear and scientific mechanism to enumerate every caste with a distinct and unique code.

As per the resolution, the Coordination Committee demanded that the Census process be halted until unique codes are assigned to every caste and a proper, transparent and scientifically sound mechanism is established for caste enumeration. The Committee further demanded that the Census should be resumed only after a broad consensus is reached among all stakeholders on an appropriate mechanism to accurately record every caste and its population.

The delegation emphasized that accurate caste-wise data is essential for ensuring social justice, equitable representation, effective policy formulation and targeted welfare measures. Any methodology that fails to properly identify and enumerate all castes could result in inaccurate data and undermine the objectives of the caste census.

The Coordination Committee urged the Registrar General & Census Commissioner of India to take the concerns raised in the representation and resolution seriously and take immediate corrective measures in the larger interest of social justice and constitutional equality.
