Rajnath Singh praises contributions of Indian community in Memphis

New Delhi- On the last day of his tour to the US, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh visited the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, Tennessee on August 25. Described as a “living bridge” between India and the US, he praised the contributions of the Indian community in Memphis.

The National Civil Rights Museum, built near the site of Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination in 1968, tells the story of the civil rights movement in the US from the 17th century to the present day. It also has a statue of Mahatma Gandhi, who is regarded as his inspiration for nonviolent struggle.

During his visit, Rajnath Singh interacted with Indian Diaspora members from Memphis, Atlanta, Nashville, and other nearby areas. He praised their achievements and contributions to society, science, and the economy. He described them as a “living bridge” between India and the US, fostering close relations and goodwill.

The Rajsha Mantri also acknowledged the efforts of the Indian community in organizing an exhibition of Mahatma Gandhi and placing two honorary “Gandhi Way” street signals near the National Civil Rights Museum on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in 2019. He also highlighted India’s growth trajectory in the last decade and its immense potential for a bright future.
