Rajan Chaudhary

This ground of 'The Mooknayak' is presented to investigate the electoral environment of the most prominent assembly seats of Gorakhpur district in the UP assembly elections 2022 and the people's issues, problems and claims of the schemes and facilities being run by the state and central government. Report:

Gorakhpur: "Everyone here is fighting on their own terms, whose fate will prevail, he will win," says Rambhog (58), a resident of Sahajanwan assembly constituency, answering what is the atmosphere here this time. Sahjanwan Vidhan Sabha is a border area of Sant Kabir Nagar district and Gorakhpur district.

Taking support from an acquaintance standing nearby, Rambhog said, "Earlier there was electricity for a week and it was missing for a week. But under Yogi's rule, 24hrs. (Chaubiso Ghante Bijali Milti Hai) electricity is available."

Responding to The Mooknayak's question, what are your problems and issues, he completed his point and said, "This is what has led to some increase in the prices of diesel-petrol, but we need it only a few times in 6 months. (according to the season of the crop). Only the drivers of the vehicle are facing this problem."

An elderly woman, who was sitting in the premises of Rambhog's house, who was stuffing spices in the red chillies (Bharua Mirch) to be eaten, said, "The pension was stopped due to paperwork, now after a lot of hustle and bustle Started meeting. The pension was closed for about 5 years. There is some farming but two thousand PM Samman Nidhi are not available. Didn't get free gas, so bought gas with my own money.

Seeing the women talking, a gentleman wearing a saffron turban stopped on the way. He told that BJP is leading in our place (Sahjanwan). But in an increasing series of conversations with The Mooknayak, he expressed his problem, "A year ago today, people with electricity connections came to our village to install meters.

"They made another electricity connection 'double connection' separately for us, due to which many people of the village are upset. Two bulbs are lit in my house but the bill for a month comes to fifteen hundred rupees." he add.

Expressing displeasure over the suggestion to meet his public representatives regarding the above problems, he said, "Look, brother! Pandey ji (Sahjanwan MLA) did not appear here ever since he won the election. People here don't even recognize his face."

A middle-aged gentleman living in Sihapar village of Sahajanwan Vidhan Sabha, who is painting the temple, said that in our village there is no arrangement (Dharamsala) to hold the procession at the time of the marriage of daughters, since years the village People have been making public representatives aware about this problem but no one ever listens.

He further said, "Modi ji has got the e-shram card made. We see in the news, in the newspapers that so much money has been turnover, so much has been received but this is our Sihapar gram sabha, no money has been received in anyone's account here".

When The Mooknayak asked him about getting ration, "It is good if you don't get ration. Because this is a village, everyone here has a little bit of farming. If everyone had some or the other small employment, then why would people have to run after ration."

When asked about the political equation of his constituency, he told that last time Sheetal Pandey won from BJP but this time Sudhir Singh from BSP is leading here.

Shivnath of the village says, "The voters here are very silent. Three-four days are left for voting, it will be known at the last moment who is dominant over whom."

In the 2017 assembly elections, Sheetal Pandey was victorious from the BJP in the Sahjanwan assembly seat. Yashpal Singh Rawat from Samajwadi Party stood second. However, this time in the 2022 assembly elections, according to the local people, a tough fight is being considered between BJP and BSP in Sahjanwan assembly seat.

A woman, who also works as a cook in a government school in Gorakhpur Rural Assembly constituency, digs carrots from her carrot field, says; "We grow vegetables and fruits according to the season in the field and sell them in the market, the family runs from what we get."

Recalling the era of the Corona epidemic, she says, "During the time of Corona, when we used to go to sell vegetables, the police used to beat us with sticks, due to fear, we used to run home after selling vegetables at throwaway prices. Our family ran in some way very difficult during the time of Corona.

She further says that "My two children could not go to school for two years because of Corona, this time also there was not enough money to send them to school." During a conversation with The Mooknayak, all the members of the woman's family – husband, son and daughter – were digging carrots to take them from the farm to the market.

Cooking oil has become very expensive, gas is more than a thousand rupees, hardly gets refilled once in two or three months. When asked about inflation, she says, "Gas subsidy has now stopped, (Gas Bharaun Ya Pariwar Chalaun) fill gas or run a family."

The lady cooks got annoyed for a while talking, "… Corona doesn't come when Modi has to campaign? Corona happens only when the school is opened!" She further said, "Our salary is only fifteen hundred rupees per month, and the master people are only waving their feet on the chair, then their salary is 18 thousand – 80 thousand." They had a clear demand that the government should increase the salary of cooks who cook in government schools.

The Mooknayak tried to know about the electoral turmoil of Gorakhpur from a roadside sweeper working in Gorakhpur Rural Assembly Constituency adjoining Gorakhpur City, "Today an MP, a former MLA is elected for 5 years. So his lifelong pension is activated, and the pension of the one who works for 60 years has been stopped by Atal Bihari Bajpayee, where is this justice! Where's the policy? (Vote Wahin Jayega Jo Pension Bahaal Karega) The vote will go to the one who restores the old pension".

In the 2017 assembly elections, the public had reposed faith in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Vipin Singh for the Gorakhpur Rural Assembly seat, and he was elected MLA. While Vijay Bahadur Yadav from Samajwadi Party stood second in the same seat.

Atul Sharma of Gorakhpur city assembly constituency says, "It has been history till today that only Yogi ji has won from here, so this time also there is full confidence that once again Yogi ji will come (Yogi Ji Hi Aayenge). Here the fight is between BJP and SP. The fight is thorny in the entire state, maybe Akhilesh's government can also be formed.

Another gentleman standing nearby, who belonged to the Muslim community, said, "It is not necessary that only Yogi will win, SP can also win elections. The BJP never talked on the issue of unemployment and inflation. In the last four phases of elections, the public has given them answers on these issues. Cows are dying in Gaushala, they are not getting even fodder. He has been the Chief Minister here, tell any planning of Gorakhpur to the public which he has done here".

My son, Sahab is B.Com and is looking for a job for three years. But being a Muslim, people do not give him a job. Wherever he goes, after asking his name, people refuse to give him a job. I am not educated but could not do anything for my son even after teaching him. I work in a shop in the city, his business has also closed. I don't have enough money to send him out to earn somewhere." A father working as a mechanic at a hammer-snatching shop exposed the BJP's slogan "Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas" on The Mooknayak's camera in grief and despair.

The husband of Sushila (66), who lives in a dilapidated house like a tin-shed and a slum on the side of the main highway in Transport Nagar, has passed away five years ago. She lives with her two children in this house with barely enough space to sleep, although the children are small, but somehow make their living by doing daily wages.

Sushila says, "I have been living here for almost 10 years. Submitted the form many times for housing but till date, I have not got its benefit. I don't even have any work for me or my kids. Sometimes 2-2, 3-3 days work is not available then one has to sleep hungry stomach. 15 kg ration is available in a month but the entire month cannot be spent on it.

Let us tell you that this house of Sushila comes only in the Gorakhpur city assembly constituency, from where Yogi Adityanath is in the electoral fray this time. According to the local people, the distance of Yogi's Math from here is about 15 kilometers.

Talking about the 2017 assembly elections, Dr. Radha Mohan Das Aggarwal, BJP's candidate from Gorakhpur city assembly seat, which is considered to be the most important assembly seat of Gorakhpur, won with huge votes, while Congress candidate Rana Rahul Singh came second. Were. But this time Yogi Adityanath has fielded from Gorakhpur city seat. Bhim Army Chief, Chandrashekhar Azad 'Ravana' has also come into the electoral fray against him on this seat. At present, it is for the public to decide which party will be in favor of the results of this seat.

A total of 109 candidates are in the fray for the nine assembly seats of Gorakhpur. Maximum 15 candidates are trying their luck in the electoral fray from the assembly seat Gorakhpur Rural.

With the increasing sequence of the election phases, now the BSP, which has come out with full force, has fielded its candidates on the basis of caste equations in 9 seats of Gorakhpur. Expressing confidence in the Dalit-Muslim alliance in the city, the party has put in full force.

Most interestingly, the BSP had also won a seat in Gorakhpur in the Modi-Yogi wave of 2017 and made its presence felt by finishing second in four other assembly seats. Whereas SP could not even open an account here in the 2017 elections. That is why this time also BSP is in front of other parties as a challenge. There are about 50 thousand Muslim voters in the Gorakhpur city assembly. At the same time, the number of Dalit voters is also good.
