West Bengal Scrutinizes Voter Lists for Bangladeshi Fundamentalist Group Involvement

Review triggered by arrest of Ansarullah Bangla Team activist with dual voter registration

Kolkata - The West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer's office is conducting a thorough review of voter lists in districts bordering Bangladesh following intelligence reports suggesting the involvement of Bangladeshi fundamentalist groups in voter registration. The move comes after the arrest of Shad Radi, an activist of the Bangladesh-based fundamentalist group Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), who was found to be registered as a voter in two different constituencies in Murshidabad district.

The CEO office is investigating the extent of similar registrations in Murshidabad and plans to expand the scrutiny to other border districts. The scanning process aims to identify and remove any duplicate or fraudulent entries, especially those related to Bangladeshi fundamentalist groups. This action follows reports of the same EPIC (Elector's Photo Identity Card) number being issued to voters in both West Bengal and Gujarat.

The CEO office is taking these matters very seriously, as fake EPIC cards are a crucial step in the process of obtaining fake Indian documents for illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. The office has directed officials to thoroughly check documents for new EPIC card applicants.
