New Delhi- The National Centre for Assistive Health Technologies (NCAHT) at IIT Delhi has launched various assistive technology products to enhance the mobility and education of visually challenged people.

The products include Shapescapes, a geometry learning kit designed to help students with learning concepts of geometry, and Accessible Kit for STEM Education, which aims to overcome learning challenges faced by visually challenged students in areas such as logic gates, electronic components, circuits, and more.

White canes are another important assistive technology used by visually challenged people for independent and safe mobility. The National Centre for Assistive Health Technologies (NCAHT) has collaborated with Kenstel Communications Private Ltd. to develop a high-quality white cane that has an enhanced design that addresses the needs of users and overcomes common problems faced with locally manufactured white canes.

The kit also includes a self-learning book with concepts explained through tactile diagrams, large print, and Braille to support students in learning the fundamentals of electronics. These products are part of the NCAHT's vision of enabling disability inclusion through assistive technology by developing a range of AT solutions and services.

The launch of these products was marked by the presence of Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi. The event emphasised the importance of grooming students into ambassadors of social innovation by engaging them in state-of-the-art R&D activities.

Mr. Rajiv Bahl, Director General, ICMR, while launching the products, emphasized the need for developing indigenous assistive technology solutions for unmet needs in this space. The aim of these products is to empower visually challenged people and help them reach their full potential.
