New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has announced a new Master of Science (Research) program in 'Healthcare Technology' for medical and allied clinical professionals. The program, offered by the Centre for Biomedical Engineering (CBME), aims to bridge the gap between medicine and engineering by providing medical professionals with cutting-edge engineering skills to innovate in healthcare.

The program, starting in January 2025, will be project-centric and offer clinical and industrial immersion opportunities with leading institutions and corporations. This approach aims to equip graduates with the practical experience and understanding needed to pursue careers in medical technology research and development or entrepreneurship.

Prof. Neetu Singh, Head of CBME at IIT Delhi, emphasized the program's role in creating a pipeline for independent researchers in biomedical fields. "The program will provide the much-needed intermediate degree and training for filling the gap between traditional bachelor's and longer duration Master's and doctoral degrees needed to become an independent researcher for the medical and allied professionals," she stated.

The curriculum will cover core subjects, laboratory courses, and research methodology, with a focus on areas like precision medicine, biomaterials, medical imaging, and rehabilitation. The program also offers a pathway to pursue a Ph.D. at IIT Delhi.

Prof. Naresh Bhatnagar, Dean of Research and Development at IIT Delhi, highlighted the program's alignment with national missions, particularly in fostering medical device development in India. He believes the program will provide medical graduates with unique opportunities to lead in technology development and innovation within the healthcare sector.

Interested candidates can apply online at https://ecampus.iitd.ac.in/PGADM/login before October 25, 2024. The program offers fellowships and remunerations comparable to entry-level salaries in medical and allied disciplines. More information is available at https://cbme.iitd.ac.in/news/52.
