Jaipur- Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully strongly condemned a recent incident of caste discrimination in the Gudamalani constituency, highlighting the growing concern over such practices in Rajasthan. Jully expressed outrage over the treatment of Dalit students at the Government Higher Secondary School in Dhooli Nadi, where they were reportedly subjected to segregation based on their caste.
"This incident is a clear example of the deep-rooted discrimination that still exists in our society," Jully said. He emphasized that the Dalit students were forced to use separate utensils for their mid-day meals and were even excluded from participating in the Independence Day celebrations. Jully criticized the state government, asserting that since the current administration took office, cases of atrocities and discrimination against Dalits have been on the rise.
Following his conversation with the Barmer District Collector and the Superintendent of Police, Jully has demanded swift and strict action against the perpetrators. He received assurances that the identities of the accused had been confirmed and that arrests would soon follow.
The incident came to light after a video showing the discriminatory practices at the school went viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage. In the video, it is evident that Dalit students were being treated unfairly, with even their meal utensils being kept separate from those of other students.
The students and their families have alleged that this mistreatment has been ongoing for over a year. On Independence Day, the situation escalated when Dalit students were reportedly forced out of the school and were denied the meal prepared for the occasion.
In response to the viral video, the local administration and education department were quick to take action. Barmer police, through a statement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), assured the public that senior officials, including the SDM, Tehsildar, CBO Gudamalani, Patwari, and Sarpanch, were present at the school to address the issue. They confirmed that all students would be made to sit and eat together as per protocol.
A formal complaint was lodged by Rauram Meghwal at the Dhorimanna police station, calling for legal action against those responsible for the discrimination. The police have been instructed to pursue necessary legal steps based on the complaint.
The Chief District Education Officer, Murlidhar Yadav, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident. He dispatched the Gudamalani Block Education Officer (CBEO) to the school to conduct a detailed inquiry. Yadav has assured that anyone found guilty of discriminatory practices will face strict legal consequences.
Jully’s remarks have brought attention to the broader issue of caste-based discrimination in Rajasthan, urging the state government to take decisive action. He called on the Chief Minister to review the situation and implement necessary measures to uphold the rule of law, ensuring that marginalized communities are protected and treated with dignity.
