President Murmu: Change How Women Are Depicted for India's Progress

Mumbai- President Droupadi Murmu has said that if India's country is to achieve its full potential, then it is essential to change the way women are depicted in society.

While addressing the centennial celebrations of the Maharashtra Legislative Council in Mumbai, the President said that women make up half of the country's population and their active participation in various areas is needed to take the country forward. Praising Savitri Bai Phule , Murmu said, Savitribai Phule has a revered place in the historical tradition of women giving direction to the social upliftment of Maharashtra. She has created history in the field of education of girls and the underprivileged.

The President also said that the formation of the Bombay Legislative Council was the result of the efforts of the country's great freedom fighters. She also said that Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar of Bombay Legislative Council is a member of her.

President Droupadi Murmu also paid respects to Babasaheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar at Chaitya Bhoomi. She said the values and ideals of the architect of Indian Constitution will continue to guide our nation.
