New Delhi- Journalist and Editor-in-Chief of The Mooknayak, Meena Kotwal, was honored with the prestigious Digital Women Awards by She The People in Hyderabad. This accolade was awarded to her in recognition of her remarkable contributions to digital journalism. Through her media platform, Kotwal has amplified the voices of the marginalized, oppressed, and underrepresented communities, bringing their rights and issues into the national spotlight.

While sharing her thoughts from the stage, Meena Kotwal spoke about the role of women in society and their limited representation in leadership. She highlighted the glaring underrepresentation of women in leadership roles, which raises critical questions about societal balance and progress. She specifically addressed the state of women in the media industry, emphasizing how their participation remains significantly limited.

Referring to a 2020 report, Kotwal noted that women constitute a mere 20 percent of digital, print, and electronic media professionals. "This statistic is alarming," she said, "considering that women represent half of the nation’s population. Without equal opportunities for women, true societal progress remains incomplete."

Kotwal paid a heartfelt tribute to Savitribai Phule, describing her as one of the greatest inspirations for change in Indian society. "Savitribai Phule was India’s first woman teacher who not only opened schools for women but also established the critical importance of education in society," she remarked.

Reflecting on Phule's contributions, Kotwal asserted, "If women today can take the stage and speak out, the credit goes to trailblazers like Savitribai Phule, who fought for women’s rights and education."
