89 Lakh Women Beneficiaries Under PMAY-U, Says Housing Minister

New Delhi- The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MPIA) has sanctioned the construction of 118.64 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban (PMAY-U) for the year 2024-25. This houses will be built in urban areas of the country with basic civic amenities.

Under the scheme, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs will provide central assistance of Rs 2.0 lakh crore to the state and union territories. So far, 114.40 lakh houses have been started and 85.43 lakh houses have been completed and delivered to the beneficiaries.

According to the information received from the state and union territories, 16.79 lakh, 49.63 lakh and 39.44 lakh houses are in the name of men, women and joint ownership respectively. More than 89 lakh houses are in the name of women either jointly or in sole ownership.

The Union Cabinet has approved the assistance of Rs 3 crore for the construction of 3 crore additional houses in rural and urban areas. This funding will be used for the construction of houses to meet the housing needs of 1 crore urban poor and middle-class families. The budget of PMAY-Urban 2.0 is Rs 10 lakh crore, with central assistance of Rs 2.20 lakh crore.
