In order to provide clean drinking water in rural areas, a few years ago, the government, alongside constructing overhead tanks in urban areas, also constructed them in rural areas at the cost of crores of rupees. Besides the construction of the overhead tank, a pipeline was also laid in the village, and[water] facets were also installed. But not even a drop of water from the overhead tank built in the Awarawa-Sufeganj gram panchayat of Fazilnagar block has reached the doorstep of the people About 50 villages are connected to this overhead tank, but the people of all these villages have no choice but to buy drinking water from private sector RO [reverse osmosis] water suppliers.

According to the local people, the ordinary public is not able to access clean drinking water due to the negligence of the water supplier contractor of the overhead tank and the state department for water. And the overhead tank has been left to become a mere showpiece.

Work was completed in 2014

The construction of the overhead tank was completed in 2014. However, this work has not been of benefit to the people. The pipeline which had been laid became damaged within a few years as it was built to an old standard. As a result, not even a drop was able to reach the homes of the people. Today, years have passed since, but the supply of pure drinking water has not happened.

Have to buy clean water to drink

Anuj Kumar Sharma (28), a resident of Sapahan village panchayat said this tank, which was built years ago, has become a showpiece. Not a drop of water reaches people's homes from this overhead tank. There are water faucets in the entire village, but to date, not a drop of water has come through them. Most of the people of the entire gram panchayat have to buy water and drink it. Government money has been completely misused in the construction of the overhead tank. We ask Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to ensure the overhead tank operates properly.

Local person Harsh kumar (80) said, "The government spent crores of rupees to provide clean water to the people but the water has not been able to reach the homes of the people."

What are the representatives of the people saying?

Barrister Yadav, the head of the gram panchayat of Awarawa-Sufiganj, says that this overhead tank was made years ago. But until now not even a drop of water from this overhead tank has reached the people. It is essential that this overhead tank is made operational.

The BJP MLA, Fazilnagar, Surendra Singh Kushwaha, said, "The matter had not come to my notice. I will talk to the local water department XEN about this today. I will ensure that the overhead tank is operational soon."The Mooknayak tried to get in touch with the overhead tank (pump) operator to ask for his view on the matter, but he was not available to talk. We tried contacting him several times, but his mobile was switched off.
