New Delhi- In a statement released on Friday, the Supreme Court asked the National Testing Agency (NTA) to avoid any “flip-flops” in the administration of exams. This statement comes after the apex court’s decision to pass a detailed judgment in NEET-UG 2024.

The Supreme Court said in its judgment that there was no systemic breach in NEET-UG 2024. However, some minor errors and irregularities were identified by the court, including the leakage of question papers in some exam centers. The court also noted that the number of students who received 720/720 marks in the NEET-UG 2024 exam was 44 due to the errors made by the NTA.

To avoid these issues, the Supreme Court has constituted a committee to recommend and implement a comprehensive overhaul of the exam process. This committee will be responsible for conducting security improvements, implementing data protection measures, and conducting periodic audits of exam centers. The committee will also be required to review the grievance redressal mechanism for students and develop foolproof logistics for the safe delivery of question papers and other essential documents.

The Supreme Court has also directed the Union government to appoint a committee to review the NEET-UG 2024 exam and submit a report containing suggestions for improvements. This report is due within two weeks. The government will also be required to take steps to rectify the errors and discrepancies identified in the report.

The NEET-UG 2024 exam was held on May 5, 2024, and 24 lakh candidates appeared for the exam. The exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) every year. The NTA is responsible for conducting the NEET-UG 2024 exam and maintaining the security of the examination process. The NTA has been accused of failing to maintain the smooth conduct of the exam due to the alleged paper leakage and malpractices.
