New Delhi- As the country witnessed protests against the appointment of BJP MP Bhartruhari Mahtab as the pro-tem speaker of the Lok Sabha, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi were seen holding copies of the Constitution in front of the Gandhi statue in Parliament.
The protest was taken out by the INDIA bloc and the Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Bhartruhari Mahtab was sworn in as the pro-tem speaker on Monday. The opposition said the ruling party has ignored the constitution and neglected the Dalit community. This decision has insulted the Dalit community.
Congress MP Manickam Tagore criticized the NDA government for bypassing eight-term Dalit MP K Suresh for the role. Tagore questioned the decision, suggesting it was an intentional neglect of a qualified candidate from the Dalit community.
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said that this decision is not only a setback for the Dalit community but also for the entire country. He has questioned the decision of the NDA government and said that if this decision had been taken into consideration, then it would have been a historic moment for the Dalit community.
Gogoi said that the government has missed the opportunity to honor the Dalit community by not appointing K Suresh as the pro-tem speaker. He has said that the NDA government has insulted the constitution and shown its inclination towards arrogance. The protest was taken out by the Congress Parliamentary Party and the INDIA bloc. Under this, the demands of the people were raised and it was said that the government should respect the constitution and the Dalit community.
