Bhubaneswar- The Paradip Port Authority (PPA) is getting Rs 13 crore worth of new projects. These projects include the inauguration of a trauma and burn care centre and the laying of the foundation stone for a new water treatment plant.

The PPA has planned to develop a 16-million-litre-per-day water treatment plant at its new location in Paradip. The new plant will receive the raw water from the Taldanda canal and will cater to the needs of the city's residents. The project is being executed by the PPA at a cost of Rs 10.50 crore. The plant is expected to be operational by December 2024.

Similarly, a new trauma and burn care centre has been set up in the newly constructed annex building of Paradip Port Hospital. The centre will offer curative and rehabilitative services to trauma and burn victims from Paradip and the surrounding area. The construction of the new centre will cost the PPA Rs 2.90 crore.

The new projects were unveiled by PPA Secretary T.K. Ramachandran during his maiden visit to the port authority. On the occasion, the Secretary inspected and intrinsically reviewed the port operation, planning and expansion at Mechanized Coal Handling Plant, Twin Wagon Tipplers at JSWPTPL and KICT silos. He suggested system improvement measures for increasing productivity

After reviewing the port operations, Ramachandran submitted a proposal to improve the overall performance of the port operations. The measures taken under the plan are expected to enhance the capacity and streamline the workflow, which will, in turn, contribute to the port's long-term growth and success.

It is to be noted that, the Paradip Port in Odisha is the highest cargo handling major port of the country. In the financial year 2023-24 PPA became highest cargo handling port by handling 145.38 million metric tonnes (MMT) cargo throughput.
