Kolkata Students Demand Chief Minister's Resignation

Kolkata- On Tuesday, student groups in Kolkata held a rally to demand the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The rally, titled 'Nabanna Abhijan', was organized by the student organization Paschim Banga Chhatra Samaj and the 'Sangrami Joutha Mancha' against the arrest of those involved in the alleged rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

According to reports, the West Bengal Police have received credible intelligence that suggests miscreants will try to mingle among the protesters and incite violence and chaos during the rally. The state government has already imposed prohibitory orders near Nabanna under Section 163 of BNSS, which prevents the assembly of five or more persons.

To ensure the safety of the students, the Kolkata Police deployed over 6,000 personnel on the city streets, kept water cannons ready, and set up at least 19 barricade points. Around 26 Deputy Commissioners of Police were stationed at various points. Several educational institutions opted for online classes or declared a holiday for the day.

Governor CV Ananda Bose urged the state government to avoid using force to suppress the rally.
