New Delhi- A joint technical committee, led by the Indian Navy and including representatives from the Maharashtra Government and technical experts, is being established to investigate the unfortunate damage to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Statue at Rajkot Fort, Sindhudurg. The damage occurred following extreme weather conditions in the area.

The statue had been unveiled on December 4, 2023, as part of Navy Day celebrations, marking the first time such an event was held in Sindhudurg. The celebration aimed to honor the Maratha Navy's legacy and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's contributions to maritime defense and security, highlighting the historical connection with the modern Indian Navy. The project was conceptualized and overseen by the Indian Navy, with coordination and funding support from the state government.
