New Delhi- In a move to bolster land record modernization efforts in India, the Department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development, will host an international workshop on "Modern Technologies in Survey-Resurvey for Urban Land Records" on October 21-22, 2024, at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre (DAIC) in New Delhi.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister of Rural Development, will inaugurate the workshop, which aims to address the challenges faced by urban land records in India, such as fragmentation, outdated information, and multiple agency maintenance. These issues hinder effective urban planning, land management, and service delivery.
The workshop will bring together key stakeholders, including central and state government representatives, international experts, and technology providers, to showcase global best practices in urban land record modernization and explore technological solutions. Experts from countries like Singapore, South Korea, the UK, Spain, and the Netherlands will share their insights on digital land records.
The event will feature presentations on technological solutions, case studies from various Indian states, and an exhibition of drones, aircraft, and GIS software by leading Indian and international firms. Participants will discuss policy recommendations and pilot project planning for selected urban areas.
The initiative aligns with the 2024-25 Budget Announcement for establishing an IT-based system for property record administration, updating, and tax administration. This system aims to improve transparency, efficiency, and support sustainable development while reducing land-related disputes.
The Department of Land Resources has been spearheading the Digital India Land Records Modernisation Programme (DILRMP) since 2016, successfully supporting land record modernization in rural areas. The workshop marks a significant step towards extending the focus of the Department of Land Resources to create and streamline urban land records.
