New Delhi- To strengthen the ties between India and the Maldives, the governments of the two nations have decided to extend the capacity building agreement for 1,000 Maldives civil servants.
India's External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, and the Maldives' Foreign Minister, Mr. Moosa Zameer, renewed the Memorandum of Understanding MoU for capacity building of Maldives civil services officers during the period 2024-2029 Malé as part of the development partnership discussions between both the nations on 9 August in Malé, Maldives.
As per the new agreement, the National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) of India will provide training opportunities to 1,000 civil servants of Maldives over the next five years. This will help the Maldives government improve the capacity of its civil servants in the areas of public policy, governance, and field administration.
The agreement was originally signed in June 2019 and was aimed at training 1,000 permanent secretaries, secretary generals, and high-level delegates of the Maldives. The 32 capacity building programs in field administration have already been completed, and the target of training 1,000 civil servants by 2029 has been achieved.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives requested the renewal of the MoU for another five years. The new agreement will strengthen the cooperation in capacity building and will further enhance the capabilities of Maldives civil servants. This will also help in strengthening the ties between the two countries.
The National Centre for Good Governance is committed to providing capacity building opportunities to civil servants from different countries. This will help in promoting good governance and inclusive development.
