New Delhi- The Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology of Delhi (IIIT Delhi) will conduct a survey of 25,000 kilometres of road signs across the country to improve the visibility of road signs and enhance road safety.

This initiative is a collaboration between the National Highways Authority of India and IIIT Delhi for the improvement of road safety through the deployment of artificial intelligence (AI).

This partnership will leverage AI to enhance the availability and quality of road signs on national highways.

Under this project, IIIT Delhi will collect data regarding the availability and condition of road signs on selected National Highways through surveys. The data will then be processed using artificial intelligence to accurately identify and classify road signs.

Based on the survey report, geo-stamped inventory of existing road signs with their categorization, broad structural condition of the road signs, and other related data will be prepared.

The ministry aims that this project will improve the road safety by making road signs more visible and accurate.
