New Delhi- The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday began a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir to oversee preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections in the Union Territory. The visit is aimed at ensuring a smooth and transparent electoral process in the region.
As per a statement issued by the ECI, the team on the first day held discussions with representatives of national and state-recognized political parties. The ECI team reviewed poll preparedness with the District Election Officers and Superintendents of Police of the state. During this meeting, the team discussed the security arrangements necessary for the smooth conduct of the election.
An evening session was also held for coordination of efforts among various agencies. This included the Chief Electoral Officer, Special Police Nodal Officer, and Central Police Forces (CPMF) Nodal Officer. The visit will conclude with a final meeting with the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police. The ECI team is also scheduled to visit later in the day to review the readiness of enforcement agencies. The visit will be concluded with a press conference.
