New Delhi- The residents of Delhi are facing severe water shortages as the city continues to witness a heatwave, according to a news report. The report states that several areas of the city have little to no water supply, forcing people to rely on water tankers and borewells.

The affected areas include Sangam Vihar, Mehrauli, Vasant Vihar, Okhla, Vasant Kunj, Chanakyapuri, Narela, Rohini, Uttam Nagar, Janakpuri, Vikas Puri, Moti Nagar, Patel Nagar, Chhatarpur, Karawal Nagar, Mukherjee Nagar, Geeta Colony, Krishna Nagar, and Shahdara. The water scarcity in the capital is mainly due to the lower water levels in the Yamuna River and technical problems at various water treatment plants, the report states.

The shortage of water has sparked protests and political confrontations in the city. Delhi Water Minister Atishi on Wednesday said that she has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the water crisis in the national capital and threatened to go on an indefinite strike from June 21 if the issue is not resolved within a couple of days.

Addressing a press conference here, Atishi said Delhi is grappling with a water crisis since Haryana is not releasing the capital's share of water.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has accused Haryana of not releasing Delhi's share of the water. Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh has recently accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of responsible for creating the crisis by not solving the issue of water distribution. The BJP, on the other hand, has blamed the Delhi government for making the residents of Delhi victims of politics.

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva has accused Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of failing to deliver on his promise of 24-hour free water supply to the residents. According to Sachdeva, due to the lack of water supply, the residents are struggling for every drop.
