Bhopal—Minister Nagar Singh Chouhan, a tribal member of the Madhya Pradesh Cabinet, is visibly disgruntled with the Mohan Yadav government. He recently conveyed to the media his decision to resign from his post, although he plans to first discuss the matter with senior party officials. Chouhan also indicated that he would request his wife, BJP MP Anita Nagar Singh, to resign.

The internal discord within the BJP has surfaced following the appointment of Ramnivas Rawat, a leader who defected from Congress, as the new Forest Minister.

Chouhan was stripped of his Forest and Environment portfolio and the positions were reassigned to Rawat. In response, Chouhan announced his resignation from his ministerial role and declared his intent to have his wife resign as well. He intends to meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President J.P. Nadda in Delhi on Tuesday to present his case.

Chouhan told the media, “If the Chief Minister wanted to reassign any department, he could have informed me directly. It is unacceptable to reallocate my department to a leader from Congress. This decision came abruptly, and I am deeply distressed. I will discuss this with senior party leaders. I have been serving the party for the past 25 years, and I will not tolerate such disrespect.” It is worth noting that Chouhan now only retains the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department, while both key departments have been reassigned to Rawat.

Following Chouhan’s allocation of the Forest and Environment portfolio, the party had granted his wife a ticket for the Lok Sabha elections. Chouhan dedicated three months to the campaign and was later assigned to the Amravadha by-election. According to sources, he was not given an OSD upon request.

In a conversation with The Mooknayak, Chouhan stated, “It is the prerogative of the Chief Minister to decide which minister receives which responsibilities. I have not yet discussed this with the CM, and he has to explain why my departments were reassigned. I will raise this issue within the party forum, and if there is no resolution, I will resign from my ministerial position.”

Following the reassignment of his portfolios, Chouhan has openly criticized the decision in the media. In response, Mukesh Nayak, the head of the media department of the PCC, remarked that Chouhan’s resignation offer exemplifies how the BJP prioritizes defectors over dedicated party workers.
