Dewas- A devastating incident in Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas district has left an entire community in shock. In a heartbreaking case of mass suicide, three members of a tribal family died after consuming poison, while their young daughter is fighting for her life in a hospital in Indore. The incident has cast a pall of grief over the village and raised urgent questions about the circumstances that drove the family to such an extreme step.
The tragedy unfolded in Dhobghatta village, located in the Udaynagar police station area. According to police reports, 50-year-old Radheshyam, his wife Raghu Bai, and their two daughters ingested poison late on Saturday night. All four were rushed to a hospital in Indore in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, Radheshyam succumbed on the night of June 22-23, while his wife and one daughter passed away on Monday afternoon.
The incident came to light when Radheshyam’s elderly mother, Badi Bai, ran to alert villagers after finding her family in distress. By the time help arrived, it was too late to save three lives. The surviving daughter remains in critical condition at a private hospital in Indore.
No suicide note has been found, but preliminary investigations and statements from relatives suggest that Radheshyam was deeply troubled by domestic disputes. His mother revealed that he had been distressed for days and had taken the family to their farm on Saturday night, where they consumed poison together. A relative disclosed that Radheshyam had been mentally disturbed due to ongoing family conflicts, and despite attempts to counsel him, the situation remained unresolved.
The deaths have plunged Dhobghatta village into mourning, with locals struggling to comprehend why the family took such a drastic step. Additional SP HS Batham confirmed that post-mortems were conducted, and the bodies were handed over to relatives. Police are investigating all angles to determine the exact reasons behind the tragedy.
As the lone surviving daughter clings to life, the incident has sparked grief and introspection across the district, highlighting the urgent need for mental health support and conflict resolution in vulnerable communities.
