Over 50 Children Rescued in a Year in Udaipur; Child Trafficking Remains Prevalent in Tribal-Dominated South Rajasthan

Udaipur- On the occasion of World Anti-Human Trafficking Day, Dr. Shailendra Pandya, former member of the Rajasthan State Child Commission and child rights expert, emphasized the need for robust laws and improved rehabilitation schemes to combat human trafficking effectively.

Speaking at the “Access to Justice” seminar organized by the Gayatri Seva Sansthan at the Vivekananda Hall in Hiran Magri Sector-6, Udaipur, Dr. Pandya welcomed the inclusion of trafficking as a criminal offense in the new section of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). However, he highlighted the ongoing issues in tribal areas bordering other states, where trafficking continues to be a significant concern.

In the past year, over 50 children have been rescued from trafficking in Udaipur district through the combined efforts of the district administration, Udaipur police, and various organizations. Dr. Pandya stressed the necessity for powerful legislation tailored to the needs of tribal regions and effective measures for better rehabilitation of rescued children.

Ravi Kant, the head of “Access to Justice,” noted that while efforts are ongoing to free children from traffickers in collaboration with state governments, there is a pressing need to enhance current strategies. Recent reports reveal that traffickers are continually adopting new and sophisticated methods.

Nitin Paliwal, a representative of the Gayatri Seva Sansthan and a collaborator in the “Access to Justice” program, shared that today, 180 social organizations allied with “Access to Justice” are conducting seminars and other events across various districts of the country.

They are uniting to pledge against trafficking. The organization also released posters providing information on supportive laws, schemes, and government provisions to combat trafficking.

The seminar was attended by volunteers from various districts in the Udaipur division, members of the Rajasthan Child Advisory Group (R.C.A.G.), and the Access to Justice team.
