London– In a significant move to amplify discussions surrounding caste and social justice, the SOAS Ambedkar Society at the SOAS University of London is proud to announce the inaugural London Anti-Caste Film Festival. The festival will take place from April 25th to 27th, 2025, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.

This groundbreaking event aims to utilize the powerful medium of cinema to shed light on the ongoing struggle for the annihilation of caste and to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar. The festival is a collaborative effort spearheaded by the SOAS Ambedkar Society, in partnership with the SOAS South Asia Institute, LSE Ambedkar Society, SFI UK, and India Labour Solidarity. Abhishek Bhosle, President of the SOAS Ambedkar Society and a doctoral researcher, stated, "This festival is a crucial step in bringing the critical conversations around caste to a wider audience in the UK. Through these powerful films, we aim to highlight the historical and contemporary realities of caste discrimination and the ongoing fight for equality and social justice."

The SOAS Ambedkar Society is a dynamic, student-led initiative based in London committed to fostering critical dialogue and generating new perspectives on caste and inequality both in India and across the globe. The society actively works to elevate the voices of marginalized communities affected by the caste system on an international stage and to redefine the discourse on liberation politics.

The first London Anti-Caste Film Festival will showcase a compelling selection of films, including:

• Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar (directed by Jabbar Patel)

• Fandry(directed by Nagraj Manjule)

• Kaala (directed by Pa. Ranjith)

• Court (directed by Chaitanya Tamhane)

• Jai Bhim Comrade (directed by Anand Patwardhan)

This festival promises to be a significant platform for education, dialogue, and solidarity in the ongoing fight against caste discrimination.
