Chenn - Actor Kasthuri Shankar faces imminent arrest after the Madras High Court rejected her anticipatory bail plea on Thursday. The court deemed her comments about the Telugu community "unwarranted" and criticized her for not directly apologizing to the women she allegedly insulted.

Justice Anand Venkatesh stated that Kasthuri "should have refrained from speaking against the women of the Telugu community" in his oral observations. He also noted that her apology, issued on her X account, did not specifically address the offensive remarks about women. Instead, she claimed that "false news" was being spread by "Tamil Nadu’s Goebbels and the anti-Hindu DMK network".

Kasthuri is accused of making derogatory remarks about Telugu-speaking people in Tamil Nadu at a Brahmin gathering in Chennai last week. She allegedly claimed that these individuals were descendants of courtesans who served kings 300 years ago and were now falsely claiming Tamil origin.

Her comments sparked widespread outrage and led to an FIR filed by a member of the Naidu Mahajana Sangam State Executive Committee.

In her defense, Kasthuri argued that the complaint was politically motivated, instigated by the ruling DMK party. She accused the state government of exhibiting an "intolerant and vindictive attitude" and claimed her remarks did not incite unrest.

Following the court's decision, Kasthuri's whereabouts are unknown. Police reports indicate her phone is switched off, and her Chennai apartment is locked.
