Wayanad – Congress Party’s General Secretary, Priyanka Gandhi, will be in Wayanad today to campaign for the upcoming by-election. Before her visit, she took to social media platform X to praise the people of Wayanad, highlighting their deep understanding and commitment to democratic values.
On Monday, Priyanka Gandhi posted on X, saying, “The people of Wayanad have always stood by truth, justice, and democracy, strengthening the spirit of the Constitution. The people here will continue to uphold democracy and the Constitution while scripting new chapters of development and progress. The energy and enthusiasm of the public are remarkable to witness.”
She also mentioned her plans to engage in a dialogue with the people of Wayanad on Monday.
The Congress party, has fielded Priyanka Gandhi as their candidate for the by-election on Kerala’s Wayanad Lok Sabha seat. This seat became vacant after former Congress President Rahul Gandhi chose to contest from Rae Bareli.
Earlier, on Saturday, Priyanka Gandhi penned a heartfelt letter to the people of Wayanad. In the letter, she mentioned the recent tragedy that struck the area, saying, “To my dear sisters and brothers of Wayanad. A few months ago, I visited Churamala and Mundakkai with my brother. I saw firsthand the devastation caused by landslides and the enormous loss you suffered. During this time, I met children who had lost all their loved ones to the disaster, and mothers mourning the loss of their families, whose lives were swept away by nature's wrath. Yet amidst this tragedy, what stood out was your boundless courage and resilience.”
The BJP has fielded Navya Haridas as Priyanka’s opponent for the Wayanad seat. Navya Haridas is a twice-elected councilor from Kozhikode Corporation, the leader of the BJP parliamentary group, and the state general secretary of the BJP Mahila Morcha.
The Wayanad by-election is scheduled for November 13, with the results to be announced on November 23.
