Jaipur- Polling for the Rajasthan Assembly byelections in seven constituencies concluded on Wednesday with a voter turnout of 69.29%, according to the state's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Naveen Mahajan. The highest voting percentage was recorded in Khinvsar at 75.62%, while Dausa saw the lowest at 62.1%.
The byelections saw peaceful and fair voting across all seven constituencies: Ramgarh, Dausa, Chorasi, Jhunjhunu, Khinvsar, Deoli-Uniara, and Salumber. Voters from all walks of life turned out in large numbers to cast their ballots at 1,915 polling stations. Voting began at 7 a.m., with voters arriving at polling stations in both urban and rural areas.
Khinvsar, a Jat-dominated constituency, witnessed a tight race between the BJP's Revant Ram Danga, the Congress' Ratan Chaudhary, and the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party's (RLP) Kanika Chaudhary, wife of party chief Hanuman Beniwal.
Even after 6 p.m., there were queues of voters at some polling stations. The CEO noted that this election marked the first time live webcasting of the voting process was implemented, allowing even those outside the state to witness the proceedings. Live webcasting was done at 1,170 of the 1,915 polling booths. Additionally, eco-friendly selfie booths were set up at polling stations to encourage voter participation.
The final vote count will be available after document scrutiny on Thursday. In the 2023 Assembly elections, these seven constituencies saw a voter turnout of 74.62%.
The counting of votes is scheduled for November 23rd, beginning at 8 a.m.
