Ranchi – In a unique voter awareness initiative led by the Election Commission in Jharkhand, more than 1.7 million schoolchildren wrote letters urging their parents to vote, under the theme ‘Mummy-Papa, Vote Do.’ By Monday evening, between 5 PM and 7 PM, the campaign garnered over 80,000 posts on social media, with the hashtag ‘Mummy-Papa Vote Do’ trending nationally on platform ‘X.’
As part of this campaign, schoolchildren across the state were given the task of writing heartfelt letters to their parents, encouraging them to fulfill their civic duty by voting. The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer reported that a total of 1,706,182 students from 18,570 schools participated in the initiative. Later, the children handed these letters to their parents at home.
Chief Electoral Officer K. Ravi Kumar commented on the campaign’s impact, saying that by reminding their parents of their constitutional duty, these schoolchildren demonstrated their commitment to strengthening democracy in the future. He mentioned that similar initiatives will continue throughout the election process.
Later in the evening, the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, in collaboration with the Information and Public Relations Department, shared the students’ letters and posts across all district social media handles.
With the ‘Mummy-Papa Vote Do’ hashtag, over 30,000 posts were made on platform ‘X,’ where the campaign remained in the top 10 trends across India. Additionally, over 50,000 posts appeared on other social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
It should be noted that Jharkhand will hold elections for its 81 Assembly seats in two phases on November 13 and 20, with vote counting scheduled for November 23.
