Jaipur- In a scathing response to Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma's press conference on Tuesday, Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully accused the CM of blindly defending Union Home Minister Amit Shah and making baseless allegations against Congress and its leadership.
In the press conference, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma sharply criticized Congress for failing to fulfill its role as the opposition, both in Rajasthan and New Delhi.
He accused the party of disrespecting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, stating, "Congress has humiliated Baba Saheb in every way and now they are playing drama." Sharma further questioned Congress's treatment of Ambedkar, pointing out that the party had denied him a ticket in the 1952 and 1954 elections and had opposed his candidacy.
"Show us Baba Saheb's resignation letter," he demanded, while also highlighting that despite numerous monuments, roads and schemes dedicated to leaders like Nehru, Indira, Rajiv and Sanjay, Congress had failed to offer anything comparable to Ambedkar. "Look inside yourselves," he urged the party. Bhajanlal Sharma also highlighted that it was the government of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee that honored Dr. B.R. Ambedkar with the Bharat Ratna, emphasizing the BJP's commitment to recognizing Baba Saheb's contributions and his 'Antyodaya' vision.
CM Bhajanlal Sharma, during his visit to Delhi, a day ago, had met with Amit Shah, the Home Minister whose controversial remarks about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, had stirred widespread condemnation.
Jully pointed out that it was Shah’s intervention that had facilitated Sharma’s rise to the position of Chief Minister, referencing the role of a "slip" or letter issued by Shah a year ago.
Jully said, "In his 12-13 minute press briefing, CM Sharma echoed Shah’s statements made in Parliament, where he accused Congress of disrespecting Ambedkar, blamed Rahul Gandhi for allegedly pushing MPs, and claimed the Congress party was driven by an insatiable hunger for power."
Jully refuted the CM's claims point by point. He said, "Congress has never disrespected Baba Saheb. The party has always followed in his footsteps and will continue to do so," Jully asserted, rejecting the allegation of disrespect towards Ambedkar.
He challenged the claim that Rahul Gandhi had pushed MPs, stating, "If such an incident had occurred, it would have been captured by the CCTV cameras in Parliament. The BJP would have released the video by now. If they have evidence, they should make it public."
On the accusation that Congress is obsessed with power, July emphasized, "Congress has been in power for 70 years but has never shown an insatiable thirst for power. It is the BJP that has misused money and state machinery to topple democratically elected governments across the country."
July also criticized CM Sharma for abruptly leaving the press conference without answering any questions from journalists. He concluded by reaffirming Congress's unwavering respect for Dr. Ambedkar, stating, "Any disrespect towards Baba Saheb will never be tolerated by this nation. The country will not forgive Amit Shah and the BJP for insulting the Constitution's architect in Parliament."
