New Delhi - In preparation for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, Chief Election Commissioner of India (CEC) Rajiv Kumar urged political parties to maintain decorum during their campaigns. Speaking at a press conference at Vigyan Bhawan, the CEC emphasized the importance of ethical campaigning and discouraged the spread of misinformation that could deter voters, particularly young people.

CEC Kumar highlighted the Election Commission's commitment to fair elections, stating that "money power will be tackled" and all candidates will be thoroughly checked to prevent inducement. He cited an incident from the Maharashtra Assembly elections where allegations of bias in checking helicopters were made, assuring the public that the Commission maintained impartiality despite facing criticism.

The CEC also addressed concerns regarding the electoral process, including allegations of inaccuracies in electoral rolls and issues with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). He assured the public that the Commission is committed to transparency and will address all concerns thoroughly.

The Election Commission also announced the schedule for the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections. Voting occurs on February 5; results will be announced on February 8.
