New Delhi- Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, visibly emotional, accused BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri of employing "dirty politics" by launching personal attacks on her family during a press conference held on Monday. Atishi's accusations stemmed from Bidhuri's comments at a recent rally, where he alleged that Atishi had changed her name from Marlena to Singh and that her parents had petitioned for clemency for Afzal Guru, convicted for the 2001 Parliament attack.
Atishi, addressing Bidhuri directly, stated, "You are abusing an old man who can’t even walk without support. My father is a teacher who has educated underprivileged students all his life and you are abusing him and indulging in dirty politics.” She further challenged Bidhuri to focus on his own record as an MP from the Kalkaji constituency, stating, "If you want to win votes you should tell people what you have done for them when you were an MP from the area. You should tell me how many roads you have built, and I will tell you what I have done for the voters.”
The press conference was called primarily to address allegations of a "voter scam" in the New Delhi Assembly constituency of Arvind Kejriwal. Atishi claimed that between October 29 and January 2, applications for the deletion of 6,167 voter names were filed, with 11 objectors denying having filed any such applications. She further cited the addition of approximately 10,000 new voters to the constituency's electoral rolls, raising concerns about the manipulation of the voter list.
Atishi has requested a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner to discuss the alleged voter manipulation and has demanded a thorough investigation into the matter. She expressed concerns about the Election Commission's administration, stating that the addition of 10,000 new voters, representing 10% of the electorate, and the deletion of 6,167 names, or 5.7% of the electorate, raise serious questions. She demanded that the addition and deletion process be halted until a full investigation is conducted to determine who filed the removal forms and from which cyber cafes.
