New Delhi - The Congress Working Committee (CWC) concluded its meeting today with a resolution expressing deep concern over the integrity of the electoral process in India. The party announced its plan to launch a nationwide movement soon in response to these concerns. The CWC stated that the integrity of the entire electoral process is being severely compromised and that free and fair elections, a Constitutional mandate, are being called into serious question by the partisan functioning of the Election Commission.
The CWC, which convened during the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament, also criticized the Central government for its alleged refusal to discuss critical issues. These issues include the recent violence in Manipur, incidents in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, and matters related to a specific group. The committee specifically called for a debate on the "systematic attempts by the BJP to stoke communal tensions in various states," particularly in Uttar Pradesh.
Despite recent electoral setbacks, the CWC reaffirmed its commitment to its core agenda. This includes advocating for a caste census, removing the 50 percent ceiling on reservations for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and OBCs, addressing the rise of monopolies in the economy, and tackling inflation and unemployment.
The CWC acknowledged the party's disappointing performance in the recent assembly elections, but emphasized the importance of unity and perseverance. The committee highlighted the significant victory of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in the Wayanad by-election as a source of encouragement. The CWC expressed gratitude towards the people of Jharkhand for their support of the JMM, INC, and other INDIA parties, viewing their victory as a rejection of divisive politics.
The CWC also thanked the people of Jammu and Kashmir for placing their trust in the NC-INC alliance. While acknowledging the need for improvement in its own performance, the CWC expressed confidence in its continued push for full-fledged statehood for Jammu and Kashmir.
The CWC described the outcome of the Maharashtra elections as "inexplicable and shocking," suggesting potential manipulation. The party called upon its organization at all levels to remain resilient and maintain focus on its core issues, emphasizing their relevance to the daily concerns of the Indian people.
