Udaipur – The entire Lakhara community in Udaipur district, under the banner of the Lakhara Samaj Seva Sansthan, submitted a memorandum to the Additional District Collector on Monday. The memorandum addressed the misuse of the Lakhara caste name and the illicit use of the caste name to defame the Lakhara community.
Community members from across the district gathered at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar circle, before marching to the District Collector's office, holding banners and shouting slogans. They chanted, "Lakhara Samaj, Apna Haq Apna Adhikar," and "Lakhara Samaj Zindabad," to draw attention to the encroachment on their rights.
After approximately half an hour of sloganeering, representatives of the community, including Mukesh Lakshkar, Rakesh, Chandraprakash, Bhagwatilal, Prabhulal, Jagdish Chandra, Kishanlal, Rameshchandra, Kailashchandra, Nandlal, Himmat, Durgesh, and Dharmendra, proceeded to the office of Additional District Collector Rajiv Dwivedi. They submitted a memorandum addressed to the President, Prime Minister, Governor, and Chief Minister.
The memorandum stated that historically, the Lakhara, Lakhera, and Lakshkar communities have been engaged in the manufacture and sale of lacquer bangles.
The Lakhara and Lakhera castes are listed as backward classes in the Indian and Rajasthan government’s official records, under serial number 32. The community expressed concern that some members of the Muslim community were misusing the Lakhara caste name, thereby encroaching on their rights and defaming the community by associating it with criminal activities.
A recent incident in Mandsaur was cited, where members of the Muslim community used the Lakhara caste name in connection with criminal activities to tarnish the reputation of the Lakhara community.
The community demanded that those who are illegally using the Lakhara caste name be identified and have their caste designation corrected on their Aadhaar cards. They also called for the cancellation of such misused names to ensure that the rights and privileges of the Lakhara community are preserved.
The event saw the participation of hundreds of community members from across the district, highlighting the unity and collective resolve of the Lakhara community in protecting their rights and identity.
