BC leaders discuss reservations, social justice with AICC OBC chairman in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A meeting on Backward Classes (BC) reservations, social justice and political representation was held at the Westin Hyderabad Mindspace in the city, where leaders of various BC organisations discussed key issues concerning the community.

The meeting was held on the occasion of the visit of Dr. Anil Jaihind Yadav, Chairman of the OBC Department of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), to Hyderabad.

National BC Dal president and BC Reservations Sadhana Coordination JAC chairman Dundra Kumara Swamy met Dr. Yadav and discussed several national and State-level issues concerning the welfare and rights of Backward Classes.

Leaders of BC organisations, intellectuals, advocates and representatives of social organisations from four states participated in the meeting and deliberated on matters related to social justice, BC rights and development.

On the occasion, Mr. Dundra Kumara Swamy submitted a detailed representation outlining several demands for the development and welfare of BC communities across the country. The representation included issues related to reservations, social equality, political representation and welfare measures for BC communities.

Among the key demands raised were:

• Immediate implementation of 42% reservations for BCs in Telangana based on population.

• Conduct of a caste census across the country with a separate OBC column in the national census.

• Establishment of a separate OBC Ministry at the Union level for the welfare of BC communities.

• Introduction of a BC Bill in Parliament to provide political reservations for Backward Classes.

• Allocation of a special budget for the comprehensive development of BCs.

• Financial support to protect traditional occupations and small businesses of BC communities.

• Strengthening BC corporations to provide easy loans and self-employment opportunities for BC youth.

• Effective implementation of BC reservations in education and government employment.

• Creation of a national platform within the Congress party to promote BC leadership.

• Bringing pressure on the Union Government to expedite action on the BC reservation enhancement bills sent by the Telangana Government.

Mr. Kumara Swamy also raised concerns about a recent incident involving members of the Kummari community in the State and urged that justice be ensured for the victims.

Responding to the representation, Dr. Anil Jaihind Yadav said that he had taken note of the issues raised and assured that he would examine the representation and make efforts to bring the concerns of BC communities to the attention of the Union Government. He also stated that the issue related to the Kummari community would be brought to the notice of the government for appropriate action.

Dr.aniljaihindh Yadav also received representations submitted by leaders of BC associations and caste organisations during the meeting.

Participants said the discussions could provide a new direction to efforts aimed at securing the rights of Backward Classes at the national level.

Representatives of Social Telangana Intellectual Forum, leaders of various BC organisations, intellectuals and members of civil society from four States attended the meeting. The participants emphasised that unity among BC communities was essential for achieving social justice and called for a coordinated national movement to address their concerns.
