New Delhi- The Labour and Employment Ministry has decided to extend the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to migrant workers, building workers, and other unorganised workers.
This decision has been taken keeping in mind the proposal of the Union Cabinet for extending the implementation of PMAY for an additional five years. With the help of this scheme, the government aims to provide two more crore houses to the eligible beneficiaries.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment has emphasized that the housing needs of migrant and other disadvantaged workers are very important. According to the Ministry, ensuring their coverage under PMAY is not only a matter of social justice but also a necessary step towards improving their living conditions.
For the benefit of this scheme, all the state governments have been asked to include migrant workers, building workers, beedi workers, cine workers, non-coal mine workers, contract labourers, and other unorganised workers in the implementation of PMAY.
