New Delhi- Tata Steel, based in Bokaro, Jharkhand, commemorated International Transgender Day of Visibility on 31 March , by offering employment opportunities to transgender individuals.
During a ceremony held on Sunday, Tata Steel's West Bokaro Division appointed 14 transgender employees as trainees for Heavy Earth Moving Machinery Operators.
This initiative marks the addition of a new batch to the workforce. Additionally, a new startup catering to transgender individuals was launched in Ranchi, while an awareness rally regarding transgender rights was organized in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
In celebration of World Transgender Day, Tata Steel in Bokaro, Jharkhand, hosted a significant event.
In an official statement released by the company, it was announced that the total transgender workforce has now reached 120 employees. Tata Steel remains dedicated to fostering a respectful and supportive workplace environment for all employees, irrespective of gender identity, sexual orientation, or any other distinguishing factor.
Anurag Dixit, General Manager of the West Bokaro Division, expressed confidence in the new trainees' abilities to make meaningful contributions to the team. He affirmed the company's commitment to providing them with the necessary support and opportunities for success.
On World Transgender Day in Ranchi, Jharkhand, the Divya Dream Foundation organized a program aimed at integrating transgender individuals into the mainstream.
Twenty-five transgenders participated in interviews, resulting in the selection of three startup groups. The first group, consisting of Jannam, Myra, Gulnaz, and Chhotu, focuses on makeup artistry. In the catering sector, the team of Raj, Kanika, Leone, and Mahi was selected, while Mahi, Moni, and Tara were chosen for art and fashion.
In Uttar Pradesh, on the occassion, the members of Kinnar community conducted an awareness rally in Prayagraj.
Led by Mahamandaleshwar of Kinnar Akhara and Swami Kaushalyanand Giri, also known as Tina Ma, a senior member of the UP Kinnar Welfare Board, the rally saw a large number of participants carrying posters and banners. The rally commenced from Mahila Park in Bairahna.
During the event, Kaushalyanand Giri appealed to society, stating, "Kinnars are born just like men and women and should not face discrimination. They deserve respect and opportunities to lead dignified lives. Kinnar do not seek pity; they seek opportunities to contribute to society like any other individual. If provided with opportunities, kinnars can make significant contributions to society."
Swami Kaushalyanand Giri emphasized the need for societal acceptance and support for transgender individuals, emphasizing their equal potential to contribute to society's progress and development.
He stressed the importance of adopting and nurturing transgender children as integral members of society, urging collective efforts toward their well-being and advancement.
