CJI DY Chandrachud: the petition has been instituted by three petitioners all of whom who state that they represented India in reputed International wrestling events. Notice was issued on April 25, on April 28 this court was apprised by SG that since allegation implicate commission of cognizable offence.. a FIR was registered.

Protesting wrestlers are alleging that some delhi police officers were drunk last night and they have manhandled the female as well as male wrestlers. While addressing the media they also said that they don't feel safe around police anymore.

An anonymous letter has been taking rounds of social media. People are claiming it's from the protesting wrestlers to Home Minister Amit Shah, but in the press conference Vinesh Phogat quashed such rumours saying no letter has been written from their side.

Vinesh Phogat while addressing the press said an anonymous person was spotted last night at the protest camp, when Vinesh confronted the person he ran away. Wrestlers are alleging that he could have links with BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Centre for struggling women (CSW) will be joining in solidarity with the protesting wrestlers today at 11 AM. Bajrang Punia gave a statement while addressing the media saying, "there's complete dictatorship going on in this country."

Not allowed to enter the protest site

Plenty of supporters in support of the wrestlers protest coming from different backgrounds are being stopped at barricading put at Jantar Mantar, police is not allowing any of them to cross even a single barricading.

The media has been barred from entering the protest site since this morning. After the dispute in the night, the strictness of the police has increased.

Wrestlers Protest at Jantar Mantar Turns Violent

On Friday late night at around 10:30 pm, a scuffle broke out between protesting wrestlers and the Delhi Police at Jantar Mantar. The wrestlers alleged that their mattresses got wet in the rain and they were arranging folding beds to be brought into the protest site. However, the Delhi Police denied their request and stopped the folding beds from being brought inside, which led to a scuffle between the two parties.

The wrestlers sustained injuries in the scuffle. They alleged that they were manhandled and beaten up by the Delhi Police, with female wrestlers alleging harassment by the police. The protest site, Jantar Mantar, witnessed several developments following the night of scuffle, as many political leaders tried to enter the site.

Initially, the police denied entry to the press, citing that section 144 was imposed. At a later stage, they partially allowed the media to enter. A wrestler named Rahul Yadav was unconscious for about two hours following the tussle, after which the Delhi Police called an ambulance and took him to RML Hospital. Another injured in the matter is Vinesh Phogat’s brother, Dushyant Phogat, both of whom sustained serious injuries. The protesting wrestlers are terrified by the kind of behavior they have encountered.

Delhi Police Detained Political Leaders at Midnight

After the news broke out at midnight, several politicians, including Congress Rajya Sabha MP Deependra Singh Hooda and Saurabh Bharadwaj, tried to enter the protest site but were detained by the police on the spot. The Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women also arrived at the protest site but, despite several attempts to enter, was also detained by the police.

Press Conference by Wrestlers at Midnight

The wrestlers described their trauma during a late-night press conference and urged the entire nation to join them at Jantar Mantar. A wrestler from India,Bajrang Punia delivered a significant statement, stating that "we will give the Indian government our medals in exchange. We do not want these medals if such behavior continues even after bringing honors to our nation. This dharna has been a target of the Delhi Police and Brij Bhushan's men from the beginning. The terms "casteism" and "regionalism" are used occasionally."

The wrestlers have been protesting for the 11th consecutive day over the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The current issue is related to the abuse, pushing and shoving of women wrestlers by a police personnel. Heavy police forces have been deployed in and around the protest site.

Tweets Pouring In Support of the Wrestlers

Bhim Army Chief, Chandrashekhar Azad, said that the lathicharge by the Delhi Police on the daughters who have won many medals for the country and are fighting for justice peacefully at Jantar Mantar in Delhi is a very cowardly and shameful act.

MP Sanjay Singh tweeted, "Modi ji, Vinesh, whom you called the daughter of your family, your police are abusing her as a sister. Are you ashamed Modi ji?"

Meanwhile, the Congress tweeted, "These are the daughters of our country, who have brought us many medals. Today, Home Minister Amit Shah's police is misbehaving with them. Their only crime is that they are raising their voice against exploitation. Modi ji, why are you doing such injustice?"

Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait also took to Twitter and wrote, "The misbehavior of Delhi Police towards the wrestlers' strike will not be tolerated. The central government should take immediate notice. The whole country is with the wrestlers in this fight for justice."
