Bhopal: A sensational incident has come to light in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh, where a woman and her two innocent children were abducted in broad daylight after assailants opened fire. It is alleged that a man named Sanjay Singh Rajput, along with nearly a dozen accomplices, arrived in the village and forcibly took away 26-year-old Mithilesh, her four-year-old son Sarthak, and five-year-old daughter Bhumi, pushing them into a car. When the woman’s husband, Hariram, tried to intervene, the accused brutally assaulted him.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in Sumeri village under the Lavkushnagar police station limits. Eyewitnesses claimed that Sanjay Singh arrived in the village armed with weapons and sticks. As soon as they entered, the group began firing indiscriminately, spreading panic in the area.

Husband’s Allegation – Accused Had Ill Intentions Toward Wife

The injured husband, Hariram Prajapati, alleged that the accused, Sanjay Singh, had been eyeing his wife with malicious intent. On Friday, Sanjay had been loitering near their house, and when confronted, he returned the next day with his gang, launching an attack and abducting the family. Hariram, severely injured in the assault, was referred to the district hospital.

Dr. Abhay Singh stated that the victim had marks on his head from being struck with the butt of a weapon. Initially, there were suspicions of a gunshot wound, but medical examinations ruled it out.

Father-in-law Claims – Harassment for Over a Year

Mithilesh’s father-in-law, Jagat Lal Pal, and mother-in-law, Champa, revealed that Sanjay had been harassing their family for the past year. Initially, he would address Mithilesh as bhabhi (sister-in-law) and Hariram as bhaiya (brother), but his behavior gradually turned sinister. On Friday, he had been sitting outside their house, leading to an argument.

They alleged that Sanjay was involved in illegal activities like smuggling cannabis, liquor, and weapons. Despite multiple complaints to the police, no action was taken.

The Lavkushnagar police have registered a case against Sanjay Singh and eight others, who remain unidentified. A Bolero vehicle and several bikes have been seized, and some individuals have been detained for questioning.

SP Agam Jain stated that raids have been conducted at over 25 locations to track down the accused, and a reward of ₹10,000 has been announced for information leading to Sanjay Singh’s arrest.

SDOP Navin Dubey of Lavkushnagar suggested that the woman and the accused had a prior romantic relationship. He claimed that the husband had been preventing them from meeting, which allegedly provoked Sanjay to abduct the woman and children in a fit of rage. The accused reportedly abandoned the car at a distance and escaped on a bike.

The incident has sparked political uproar, with the Congress forming a four-member fact-finding team. The party has demanded immediate security for the victim’s family and swift arrest of the accused. The committee includes Surendra Chaudhary, Narayan Prajapati, Pradeep Khatik, and Kiran Ahirwar.
