Empowering Rural India: Financial Inclusion at Doorsteps with India Post Payments Bank

Ahmedabad- India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) celebrated its 7th Foundation Day with a focus on its mission to promote financial inclusion through the "Aapka Bank, Aapke Dwar" initiative. Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav of the North Gujarat Region highlighted IPPB's significant achievements in extending the benefits of various welfare schemes from both the Central and State Governments to remote and rural areas, aligning with the Digital India mission.

Established as an undertaking of the Department of Posts, IPPB has reshaped the banking landscape over the past six years by providing paperless, cashless, and presence-free banking services at the doorstep. The bank has played a pivotal role in reaching financially excluded and vulnerable sections of society, particularly in rural areas. In the Gujarat circle alone, more than 33 lakh IPPB accounts are operational.

This year, IPPB in Gujarat has facilitated general insurance for 1.19 lakh people, updated mobile numbers for 1.80 lakh individuals, and enrolled 2,571 children under the CELC system. Additionally, Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT) worth Rs 242 crore were made to over 15 lakh beneficiaries.

Yadav emphasized that IPPB's innovative approach has empowered 44% of its customers, who are women, underscoring the bank's role in women’s financial empowerment. The efforts of postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks were also recognized, as they have become mobile bankers, delivering essential services such as Aadhaar enrollment for children under five, mobile number updates, digital life certificates, DBT, Aadhaar-enabled payment systems, bill payments, and a variety of insurance schemes directly to people's doorsteps.
