Delhi High Court Grants Aaftab Poonawala 8-Hour Daily Unlock

New Delhi- In a recent development, the Delhi High Court has ordered the Tihar jail authorities to allow the accused in the 2022 Shraddha Walkar murder case, Aaftab Poonawala, to be unlocked for eight hours a day. This order was passed by the Delhi High Court while hearing Poonawala's plea.

It has been alleged by Poonawala's counsel that he has been kept in solitary confinement since last year. During this time, he is only released for one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening, while the rest of the inmates are allowed to roam freely. Poonawala's counsel has further said that he has not committed any jail offence.

The jail authorities have maintained that Poonawala is not being kept with the other inmates due to a "threat perception".

They alleged that Poonawala was attacked while he was being taken to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Rohini last year. In this incident, the Delhi High Court had earlier passed a direction to give due security to Poonawala.

Poonawala is accused of killing his live-in-partner Walkar on the night of May 18, 2022, inside their house in Chattarpur Pahadi in South Delhi. According to police, he allegedly cut the body into pieces over the course of several weeks and disposed of it in a nearby forest.

The Horrifying Incident

Shraddha Walkar, a 27-year-old woman, tragically lost her life in a horrific incident in Delhi on May 18, 2022. She was murdered by her 28-year-old boyfriend and live-in partner, Aaftab Amin Poonawala.

The case remained undisclosed for nearly six months until Shraddha's father filed a missing persons report upon learning of her prolonged absence from her friends.

Investigations revealed that on that fateful day, Poonawala strangled Shraddha during an argument and then dismembered her body into 35 pieces. To conceal his heinous act, he allegedly charred her face and stored her body parts in a 300-liter refrigerator.

Over the course of 18 days, under the cover of darkness, he disposed of her remains in the Chhatarpur forest to avoid detection. Aaftab Poonawala was apprehended by the Delhi Police on November 12, 2022. Shraddha's father is advocating for the maximum punishment, seeking justice for his daughter's untimely demise.
