Assam Filmmaker's Documentary Selected for IDFA 2024 in Amsterdam
New Delhi- Assam filmmaker Pranami Koch has achieved a significant milestone with her short documentary Koro Gochongni (Echoes Within), selected for the Shorts Competition at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) 2024. The film will make its World Premiere in November and is the only Indian entry in this competitive category.
Koro Gochongni follows Pranami's deeply personal journey to Harisong, a remote village in Northeast India, as she attempts to reconnect with her ancestral identity through her late grandmother's memory.
By engaging with her community's women, she reflects on her heritage as a Koch woman and the challenges facing her matrilineal society. The film explores themes of lost identity, language, and culture, particularly highlighting the impact of Brahminical influences on animistic traditions in indigenous tribes.
Pranami wears multiple hats as Director, Producer, Writer, Editor, and Sound Recordist in the project. The film was made in collaboration with DOP Shrutiman Deori, Sound Designer Eemon Koch, and Music Composer Rishikesh Thangjam, with support from Rough Edges, Sandbox Collective, and the Generator Co-Operative Art Production Fund.
