Rajasthan CM Gehlot, Ex CM Raje Test Positive for COVID-19 Amid Surge in Cases in India

As India faces a fresh surge of COVID-19 cases, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje have tested positive for the virus on the same day. Both of the leaders announced their infection on social media and advised people to be cautious.

While Gehlot has stated that he has moderate symptoms of the virus and will work from home, Raje advised those in her close contacts to get themselves tested.

With active coronavirus cases in Uttar Pradesh crossing the 500 mark and the daily positivity rate of COVID-19 currently at 6.1%, concerns are mounting over the rapid resurgence of the pandemic in the country.

3038 fresh cases, 9 fatalities

Amid the rising coronavirus cases in the country, India logged 3,038 fresh COVID-19 infections, taking the active cases tally to 21,179. According to the Union Health Ministry data, the death toll climbed to 5,30,901 with 9 more fatalities.

While two deaths each were reported from Delhi and Punjab, one each was reported by Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra and Uttarakhand in a span of 24 hours and two were reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated. As per the Union health ministry, the daily positivity rate of Covid-19 currently stands at 6.1%.

The Covid case tally was recorded at 4.47 crore (4,47,29,284). The active cases now comprise 0.05 per cent of the total infections and the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.76 per cent, the ministry said.

98 % recovery rate

Amid fears of a rapid resurgence of Covid-19 cases, active coronavirus cases in Uttar Pradesh have also crossed the 500 mark with 91 more persons testing positive for the virus, according to the latest health department data. Of the new cases, Lucknow has reported 13, Gautam Buddha Nagar 10, Ghaziabad 15 and Lalitpur 20, even as the daily recoveries stood at 20.

With 2,069 recoveries in the last 24 hours, total recoveries have increased to 4,41,77,204. India`s recovery rate is currently at 98.76 per cent. The daily and weekly positivity rates are 1.84 per cent and 2.49 per cent respectively. A total of 1,894 doses were administered in the last 24 hours.
