New Delhi- To address the need for safe and expeditious organ transportation, the Union Health Ministry of India has issued new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). These SOPs will apply to all stakeholders involved in organ transplants across the country.

The SOPs have been developed keeping in mind the best practices and quality standards for organ retrieval and transplant institutions. They are aimed at ensuring that precious organs are utilized effectively and that patients awaiting life-saving transplants have hope. By streamlining the organ transplant process, the government hopes to make the best possible use of scarce resources and provide hope to countless patients who are eagerly awaiting a transplant.

Under the new SOPs, airlines carrying human organs can request priority take-off and landing of the aircraft in order to ensure the safe and expeditious transport of organs.

In addition, SOPs have been issued for facilitating the transport of organs by road, trains, and through ports via shipping. These SOPs provide essential guidelines and protocols for the safe and smooth transportation of organs across the country.
